Yes, Skrill is available in the US, and US residents can use it to send money internationally. However, there are some limitations to be aware of.
Currently, US-based Skrill users can only send money to 18 countries, including Mexico and India. This is more restricted compared to UK users, who can send to 40 countries.¹²
Skrill has expressed plans to expand its services, so more countries may have become available for US users since the time of writing this review.¹
If you can't use Skrill to make your transfer, you can also initiate a wire transfer with your bank or explore an international alternative like Wise.
Yes, you can send money internationally with Skrill. It's not a wire transfer like you'd do at your bank, but it's easy and flexible. In many cases, the only thing you need is your recipient's email address.
You can fund your transfer using your debit card, credit card, bank account (via ACH), Klarna, or PaysafeCash. Then, you can direct your payment to a bank account, mobile wallet, email address, or phone number, choosing from 40 different currencies.²
However, keep in mind that there may be restrictions depending on where you're sending your Skrill international transfer and which currencies you're using. All transfers will need to comply with international wire transfer regulations.
Skrill aims to keep their fees minimal, but you will lose some money through the currency conversion rate, which we'll discuss in more detail later in this article.²
Skrill operates in more than 100 countries worldwide, but not all of its services are available everywhere.³
American users can send money to 18 countries, including Mexico, India, and 16 other Asian and European nations.¹
The company has mentioned plans to continue expanding, so more countries may be available now.¹
Skrill also doesn't service certain countries due to regulatory compliance. These include Afghanistan, Congo, Haiti, and others. You can find the full list of Skrill's non-serviced countries here.
Skrill's fees depend on your payment method and the type of transfer you're making. There's no fee to send money by bank transfer, but different scenarios have different costs.
Here's a breakdown of Skrill's international transfer fees.

Send money by bank transfer | Free |
Send money by debit card, PaysafeCash, or bank transfer via Klarna | Up to 1% |
Send money by credit card | Up to 2.99% |
International transfer in the same send and receive currency only | Up to 4.99% per transaction |

The most accurate way to check how much your Skrill international transfer will cost is to initiate your transaction. The app will give you a preview of how much you'll pay depending on your particular transfer.
You may have to pay a Skrill money transfer exchange rate when sending money in another currency. This markup is virtually a hidden fee built into the exchange rate, and it can be as high as 4.99% per transaction.⁴
For example, if the mid-market exchange rate is 1 USD = 0.85 EUR, Skrill might offer you a rate of 1 USD = 0.81 EUR. This means your recipient will get less money, and for large transfers, this difference can be very noticeable.
Sometimes, the intermediary bank that makes the transfer will convert the money into the correct currency for the recipient. This conversion also usually isn’t done at the mid-market rate.

The person receiving the funds must have a Skrill account to access the money. If they don't already have an account, they'll receive an email explaining how to set one up.⁵
Depending on the destination country or transfer amount, Skrill might give you additional international wire transfer instructions or ask for more information for security purposes.

Skrill can be a convenient way to send money from the US to other countries. However, it's important to understand that while Skrill advertises "free" transfers, the real expense comes from exchange rate markups that can reach up to 4.99% per transaction.⁴
Make sure to calculate both the up-front fees based on your payment method and the hidden costs in the currency conversion to get the best value for your money.
You can also use Wise as an alternative with low fees and no exchange rate markups. It's fast, simple, and secure.
