Can I renew my Irish passport in Australia?

Yes. You can renew an Irish passport in Australia, but it has to be done online through the Passport Online portal.¹ Currently, in-person renewals at the Embassy of Ireland in Canberra aren’t available.

To apply for a passport renewal, head to the Passport Online website and follow the instructions to submit your application.² Before starting, make sure you’ve got the following items:

  • A digital photo that meets Irish passport guidelines
  • A debit or credit card to pay the application fee
  • Your current passport for reference
  • An email address for the application confirmation and updates.

How long does it take to renew an Irish passport in Australia?

Passport applications are processed at the same speed regardless of where in the world you're applying from³:

  • Adult Renewal (Simple): 10 working days
  • Adult Renewal (Complex): 15 working days
  • Child Renewal: 15 working days.

These timeframes don’t include postage to Australia, so make sure you allow extra time for delivery.
