From Film Student to Global Business Owner

For Garry Hurskainen-Green, borders have never been barriers - they’ve been invitations. As a seasoned entrepreneur with a background in IT, marketing and advertising, he has spent decades travelling the world, building businesses, and helping expats find the right information to relocate through his websites under the Amazing Capitals brand. From the bustling streets of Düsseldorf to the sun-soaked plazas of Valencia, the vibrant tech hubs of Helsinki to the historic charm of Prague, Garry has built a life around movement. But while his lifestyle is fluid, managing business finances across multiple countries has been anything but easy.
“I wouldn’t call myself a digital nomad,” he says. “But I do live and work all over the world. And when you’re constantly moving, you realise how little using a traditional bank works for you.”
Garry’s business is as international as his travel schedule. He works with consulates, trade bodies, and private enterprises to help businesses connect with talent across different cities. But earning an income in multiple currencies while dealing with traditional banks quickly became a source of frustration.
Managing finances across borders used to be a logistical nightmare. “I get paid in euros, have expenses in the UK, and need to move money between other currencies all the time. Banks take too long, charge too much, and always seem to add hidden fees or unnecessary steps.”
“Wise just made sense - I could finally move money between currencies without any hassle - and the story of the founders hit the spot.”
With his Wise Business account, Garry can hold and manage money in multiple currencies - all without the need for multiple bank accounts. He gets local account details in GBP, USD, CAD, EUR, or others making it easier for clients to pay him without expensive conversion fees. Converting between currencies is fast and cost-effective and he can access his funds from anywhere. Whether he’s negotiating a new partnership in France, checking in on a project in Spain, or catching up with old friends in Finland, his work depends on flexibility. “I’ve been doing this for years, and I’ve seen so many entrepreneurs struggle with international banking. It shouldn’t be hard. That’s why I love Wise - it makes everything easier.”
“I don’t have to think about banking anymore,” he says. “It just works.”
And while business takes up much of his time, Garry never forgets to soak in the world around him. “My favourite city? That’s impossible to say,” he laughs. “Helsinki feels like home, Prague has this magic to it, Delhi is intense, Hong Kong is electric, and New York - well, nothing beats the energy of New York.”
His love of travel is filled with stories - catching flights in Berlin to meet a friend in the Maldives, navigating train delays across Spain, or narrowly avoiding volcanic eruptions in the Philippines (twice). “You have to learn to go with the flow,” he says. “Sometimes you get stuck in an airport for five hours, others you even land sideways in a typhoon - but in the end, it’s all part of the journey.”
“Wise is simple. Transfers of my company’s money are immediate in any currency, converted or not. I know what I’m paying, fees are minimal and I have zero hassle getting it where it needs to go.”
Garry’s vision is to expand his platform to 100 cities, helping more businesses attract international talent while making relocation smoother for foreign professionals. His works have already made an impact in Düsseldorf, Valencia, the Ruhr and beyond but there’s always another destination on the horizon.
Wise Business plays a key role in supporting this expansion. With an easy-to-use platform and transparent pricing, Garry can focus on what matters most: building his business without financial roadblocks. “Life is too short to think about banking, I just want to enjoy getting on with my work and my travels.”
For entrepreneurs like Garry - who live, work, and operate across multiple countries - Wise Business makes international finance seamless, freeing them to focus on what truly matters - growing their businesses, exploring the world and making new friends or acquaintances.
