Capital on Tap Business Credit Card Review
Read our updated 2025 review of the Capital on Tap Business Credit Card for UK businesses. Key benefits, fees, and how to apply.
If you’re in the market for a new UK business account, one option to check out is Airwallex.
A multinational fintech firm based in Singapore, Airwallex offers digital global business accounts to companies based in the UK, along with other countries worldwide.
One crucial thing you’ll need to know before signing up with Airwallex is what business cards it offers. These will be essential for day-to-day spending and cash withdrawals, along with managing team expenses.
To help you get up to speed, we’ve put together a full Airwallex business cards review. Read on for everything you need to know, including Airwallex card fees, features, limits and much more.
We'll also touch on an alternative: Wise Business, a provider that offers multi-currency debit cards with 0.5% cashback for UK businesses. More on that later.
Airwallex offers two types of business cards to its UK customers - company cards and employee cards.
Airwallex company cards are primarily designed for business owners or directors, who’ll be making purchases on behalf of the whole company. For example, paying suppliers, buying office supplies or covering software subscriptions.
This kind of card is currently only available as an Airwallex virtual card.¹ This means it only exists in your Airwallex account, although you can also add it to digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay for convenient payments using just your phone.
You can also create Airwallex cards for your employees. These are particularly helpful for employees who regularly go on business trips and need to cover travel or other expenses.
As the business owner, you can set spending limits and track all spending in your Airwallex account - so there’s full accountability.
Employee cards are currently available as both physical and virtual cards.¹
Airwallex business cards offer the following features:
Airwallex cards come with a lot of features, but the only thing you can’t do with them is withdraw cash.
There is currently no facility for cash withdrawals with either Airwallex company cards (which are virtual anyway) or expenses cards. This means you’ll need to find another solution if your business needs access to cash.
The number of business cards you can link to your Airwallex account depends on what plan you have.
Here are all the Airwallex plans, along with the number of free employee card users and company cards you’ll get with each:²
Airwallex plan | Monthly plan fee | No of free employee/spend card users per month | Free company cards |
---|---|---|---|
Explore | £0 to £19 | 5 | 10 |
Grow | £49 | 5 | 50 |
Accelerate | £999 | 5 | Unlimited |
Now we come to the crucial question - how much does it cost to use Airwallex business cards?
The main cost will be the plan fee, which ranges from £0 to £999 a month. There are also custom plans available - contact Airwallex to discuss your needs.²
Once you have a plan, you’ll get a certain number of free company cards. You’ll also get a limited number of active monthly employee or spend users. Above this, there’s a fee of £5 to £12 for each additional employee card user per month, depending on your plan.²
There are no foreign transaction fees for spending abroad.¹ However, you should be aware that if you use your Airwallex card to spend in a currency that isn’t in your Airwallex account (or there’s not enough to cover the transaction), a 1% automatic conversion fee will apply.³
Airwallex states that it uses “market-leading FX rates” to convert currency.¹

Airwallex cards come with a default transaction limit set to $50,000 USD, or the equivalent in another currency (so this would be around £37,412 in GBP).⁴
However, you can change this limit at any time. If you want to lower it, you can do so in the ‘Cards’ section of your Airwallex account - simply select ‘Add a limit’ and enter the amount.⁴
To increase your card spending limits, you’ll need to get in touch with the Airwallex customer support team.
You can create an Airwallex virtual card at any time in your Airwallex account. To order a physical card, follow these steps:⁵
Yes, Airwallex business cards work worldwide, wherever Visa is accepted. There are no foreign transaction fees, only an automatic conversion fee if spending in a balance not in your Airwallex account.
No, at present there aren’t any Airwallex credit cards for businesses. There are only Airwallex debit cards available.
If you’re looking for an alternative to Airwallex, Wise Business cards are the perfect solution.
If you need a better option to spend abroad, Wise Business debit cards are the way to go. With Wise Business cards you can spend and allow employees to spend in 150+ countries with the mid-market exchange rate and small, transparent fees.
You can pay in 40+ currencies with your Wise Business card even if you don't have a balance for the currency on your multi-currency account. Wise's smart technology will convert your spending automatically to GBP. What is even better? You earn 0.5% cashback on your purchases.
And that’s it - our essential Airwallex business cards review, covering everything from features and fees to ordering a card.
If Airwallex is the right choice for your business, you should be all set to sign up for an account and order your first card.
