Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of IT lifecycle management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning IT resources, today announced the new Altiris® Deployment Solution™ for Network Devices, a critical component for secure computing via network quarantine capabilities. This new Altiris solution allows IT organizations to provision and configure network devices such as routers and switches to meet changing enterprise demands while taking the next step toward the realization of more secure network environments.

Dwain Kinghorn, Altiris CTO, said, “Altiris is working to deliver on the vision of a full-function quarantine system coupled with endpoint security management solutions. Altiris currently offers asset management and vulnerability assessment to examine and report on system state, and configuration management to help keep systems in a known good state, including integrated patch testing, management and system recovery to expedite the remediation of non-secure assets. The integration of these capabilities with policy-based isolation of non-compliant computers is the next step toward the quarantine-capable network.”

Deployment Solution for Network Devices enhances Altiris capabilities for network device provisioning and configuration as well as VLAN, virtual IP address and port management. Deployment Solution for Network Devices tightly integrates with Inventory Solution® for Network Devices as well as the native TCP and SNMP discovery capabilities available through the Altiris infrastructure. Other new features include:

    • Provision, modify, back up and delete VLAN configurations
    • Migrate VLAN configurations between switches, regardless of vendor
    • Back up device configurations via TFTP
    • Layer 2 connectivity discovery with topology mapping and Visio export
    • Configuration management for switch ports

Altiris server provisioning capabilities will also be extended by Deployment Solution for Network Devices. Customers can automatically configure a spare server to a desired operating state then quickly and easily switch the newly provisioned server from an isolated, staging VLAN to the production VLAN, enabling the delivery of on-demand computing capabilities.

Kinghorn went on to say, “Altiris recognizes computing security as one of the most critical objectives of IT management and we are committed to helping customers implement zero-touch security management processes. As an innovator of endpoint security management, Altiris will continue to integrate solutions to help customers reduce the cost of providing secure computing.”
