Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of IT lifecycle management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning IT resources, today announced it has joined the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) to help lead the development and adoption of management standards and initiatives.

The DMTF is the developer of the Common Information Model (CIM), the standard for the exchange of management information in a platform-independent and technology-neutral way. Altiris joins other leading technology vendors to help streamline integration of management systems through end-to-end, multi-vendor interoperability. Adoption of CIM standards by IT organizations enables a more integrated, cost-effective and stable approach to management.

“The Distributed Management Task Force is comprised of the world’s leading IT vendors,” said Winston Bumpus, DMTF president. “We have combined our expertise and resources to create standards and technologies implemented within our solutions to help IT organizations save time and money with IT infrastructure management. We welcome Altiris as a leading provider of IT lifecycle management solutions and look forward to their participation with the DMTF.”

Poul Nielsen, Altiris VP of marketing and product strategy, said, “By actively engaging with the Distributed Management Task Force, we join many of our strategic partners in the development of standards for integrated, interoperable management solutions. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to help our customers reduce the cost of owning and managing their IT environment. The DMTF is key to driving industry-based standards for lowering costs through stable, integrated management protocols.”

Altiris® client and server management solutions currently leverage and implement DMTF-supported standards such as CIM, DMI, SMBIOS and WBEM in addition to industry standards like PXE and WOL.

Nielsen went on to say, “Altiris has always emphasized the early adoption of industry standards to help our customers streamline and reduce the cost of management. As a leader in dynamic server provisioning and end-to-end client management, we currently plan to participate in DMTF working groups that focus on core systems management issues such as desktop and server management, and security protection and management.”
